COVID-19 Updates from IDPH 6/5/2020
QUESTION: Do you have guidance for concession stands and temporary food events?
RESPONSE: Any social, community, recreational, leisure, and sporting gatherings and events of more than 10 people that do not comply with these requirements shall continue to be prohibited at all locations and venues. Event sponsors shall:
- Limit indoor and outdoor seating capacity to 50% of normal operating seating capacity. For outdoor venues, this includes grandstands or other permanent seating;
- Arrange seating to provide a minimum of six feet between each group or person attending alone; and
- Implement reasonable measures for the circumstances of each gathering to ensure social distancing of gathering participants, increased hygiene practices, and other public health measures to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
FYI
Adventureland Resort in Altoona will open to Season Pass Holders only on June 3rd and 4th. On Friday, June 5th the park will welcome the general public, but only at 50% occupancy. The park will have a real-time attendance counter on its webpage to warn guests if the park is getting near capacity. 'Valid any day' ticket holders will be allowed in on a first-come, first-served basis.
Adventure Bay Water Park in Altoona remains closed.
Arnold's Park Amusement Park in the Okoboji area will open to the general public beginning June 3rd. New signage encouraging social distancing while waiting in lines and increased sanitizing of high touch surfaces have been added to the park. The park is also asking visitors to help keep each other safe by washing hands and wearing masks.

Families First Coronavirus Response Act: Employee Paid Leave Rights
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA or Act) requires certain employers to provide employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. The Department of Labor’s (Department) Wage and Hour Division (WHD) administers and enforces the new law’s paid leave requirements. These provisions will apply from the effective date through December 31, 2020.

Expired Driver’s License/ID - The Iowa Department of Transportation has issued guidance regarding expired driver’s licenses and IDs. Either of the following may temporarily be considered valid proof of identification, assuming it meets all other requirements (such as date of birth, etc.):
- An expired Iowa driver’s license plus 6-month extension notice (sample attached) from the Iowa DOT,
or - An expired Iowa driver’s license or ID card with an expiration date of January 16, 2020 or after that date.

STATE PARKS, FORESTS AND PRESERVES (UPDATED 6/1/2020)
State Parks, Forests and Preserves visitors are reminded to strictly abide to the social distancing rules and not gather in groups. Remember to stay home if you feel sick, wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face, and bring supplies from home including disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer and other hygiene products. Groups must follow gathering size, social distancing and increased hygiene requirements and recommendations.
Park Facility Changes (Updated 6/1/2020):
§ Campgrounds are open. Some campgrounds may be closed due to construction or maintenance issues. Visitors are allowed in the campground.
§ Youth group campsites are open but restricted to 50 percent capacity.
§ All modern restrooms and shower buildings are open. Drinking fountains remain closed.
§ Cabins and yurts are open. All kitchenware has been removed from cabins, including dishes, pots and pans; please bring your own from home. Additionally, check-in time is now 5:00 p.m. and check-out time is now 9:00 a.m. to allow for extra time to clean between rentals.
§ Shelters and lodges are open but restricted to 50 percent capacity. Check-in time is now 10 a.m.
§ Playgrounds are open. Equipment is not sanitized, user discretion is advised.
§ Programs and events at all state parks are limited in order to follow gathering size, social distancing and increased hygiene requirements and recommendations.
§ Visitor centers, museums and nature centers managed by state parks remain closed. Most will open by mid-June. Check the closure information below for specific park facilities.
§ Other areas of state parks and forests that remain open for day use include: trails, roads, lake and river access points, boat ramps, shorelines, and open spaces such as grassy areas.
Here’s how you can help:
- According to State of Iowa recommendations, limit your group size and stay at least 6 feet away from other park visitors.
- If you have been sick in the last two weeks, please stay at home for your health and the safety of others.
- Avoid popular areas where people may congregate such as scenic overlooks, buildings, beaches, etc.
- Please maintain distance between you and other park visitors according to guidelines and recommendations by health officials. Please take into consideration the health of others when spending time outdoors.
- Pack extra soap or hand sanitizer. Soap or sanitizer will not be easily available at state parks due to limited supplies. Be sure and bring your own and wash your hands frequently.
- Additional information on best practices for keeping you and your family safe can be found online at the CDC website.

Wilson Island State Recreation Area - Pottawattamie CountyWilson Island is closed due to flooding of the Missouri River in 2019. This affects all uses of the park including camping, fishing, hiking, mushroom hunting, Missouri river access and biking as all entry is prohibited. A date for reopening has not been set.
