Brokaw FFA Chapter Participates at State Career Development Events
Brokaw FFA Chapter members of Clarinda were involved in FFA State Career Development Events on August 24 at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
Ethan Herzberg, Alex Baker, Connor Brown, and Ethan Jones competed at the 2019 Iowa FFA State Meats Evaluation CDE. The competition included carcass evaluation classes of beef, pork, and lamb, along with a yield and grading class as well as identification of retail cuts. Members participating learned about proper techniques in evaluating carcasses and identifying high quality cuts of meat. Thirty-two members from nine FFA chapters participated in this year’s event. The meats judging team from Clarinda received a silver rating.
Bradlie Wilmes, Dagen Price, and Kristen Smith participated in the 2019 Iowa FFA State Livestock Evaluation CDE. The competition included judging and placing nine classes of livestock, completing three oral reasons classes, and taking a test over the livestock industry. One hundred twenty-two members from thirty-six FFA chapters participated in this year’s event. The judging team from Clarinda received a silver rating and placed fifth as a team in the Beef Division.
